About Franklin Guo
Born in Athens, Georgia.
Grew up in Taiwan.
Studied at University of Georgia Lamar Dodd School of Art with Drawing emphasis.
I create art to visualize what I am thinking on to paper. My work is illustrative, narrative, detailed, and stylized. The image that appears often includes a collage of the things I like with a narrative. The process usually starts with an idea that spreads into a picture in my head. The picture becomes clearer as my mind starts to play word association almost intuitively. At one point to get rid of the image in my head I have to let it out by drawing on paper. My art works are personal and they all have a general theme or connection. Everything I put on the page serves some purposes to the overall picture.
Growing up in Taiwan, my art style is heavily influenced by the popular Japanese comics also known as Manga. My admiration for children’s book illustration also gives my art a narrative quality. The materials I use are a mix of ink, ink pens, color pencils, and watercolor. Under the influence of Manga, I use ink pens for line work and cross-hatching. I also draw influence from children’s books by using watercolor and color pencils to create layers of color that can be loose or tight and realistic.
